Hi! I’m Allie.
I’m a marine ecologist, educator, conservationist, and lifelong lover of the ocean. I’m also a SCUBA Divemaster and AAUS Scientific Diver, and I hold a master’s degree from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. 🌊🐠
The ocean has always been a huge part of my life, and it’s where I find most of my creative inspiration. Nearly all of my designs are inspired by species I’ve swam with, observed in the wild, studied, or taught others about. I’m endlessly inspired by the natural world, and through my art, I hope you feel a little more connected to it, too.
Creativity has always been part of my life. I grew up in a very artsy family, with a mom who scrapbooked religiously, a tattoo artist sister, and a dad who could build just about anything. I took painting classes as a kid and signed up for every art class I could find at school. As I grew older, science and the ocean became my focus, but I never stopped creating and finding new art forms to pick up.
What started as a weekend DIY project to cover up some old stains on a pair of pants eventually grew into a craft that became incredibly meaningful to me: block carving and printing. There’s something about the process that I love. It’s tactile, colorful, imperfect, and endlessly repeatable.
Along with embroidery, sewing, and some painting, I love blending mediums together and creating something new from something old, used, or forgotten about.
At the heart of it all, I love the ocean, I love making things, and I love building community through art and education. I feel incredibly lucky that I get to share my love for the natural world in both my work and my art, and I’m so glad you’re here. 💙
